New South Wales graziers have formed a lobby group to try and keep iconic travelling stock routes open.
Travelling stock routes are an Australian farming tradition. They are fenced-off common lands which criss-cross the country alongside roadways, forming a network of 'long paddocks' traditionally used by drovers to move livestock and provide alternative grazing during drought.
At a meeting in Dubbo, central-west NSW, graziers said the routes were under threat from a government out of touch with producers' wishes.
The newly formed Combined Action to Retain Routes for Travelling Stock group will put a case to the NSW Government for better management of the routes.
