8.1.1. Surface water

As the name suggests, surface water refers to all water sources at ground level, including dams, creeks, rivers and streams. Dams are generally replenished from rainfall runoff in the immediate surrounding catchment area or an underground spring. Creeks, streams and rivers can contain water from catchment areas up to hundreds of kilometres away.
