13.5.1.Things to consider
If you decide to send livestock away on agistment, the obvious costs will include transport to the agistment property, and then a fee per animal, per day, usually payable monthly in advance. But possible risks associated with sending livestock on agistment include stock health issues (which may cost extra to be dealt with by the agistor), stock theft and weed and disease acquisition when stock return home.
If you decide to take on agistment, the agistee (livestock owner) will usually want to come and inspect your property to ensure it has adequate infrastructure (fencing, yards and water) and feed to support the livestock during the agistment period. Your property will also be required to have a registered Property Identification Code (PIC).
