Southern Pygmy Perch - Call for refuge sites
Gunning District Landcare is calling for people to nominate suitable farm dams as refuge sites for the threatened Southern Pygmy Perch. There are only three populations of this charismatic little fish left in the wild in NSW, and two of these populations are in the Gunning area!
Farm dams are ideal as they are safe from predators and can be easily monitored.
If you are in the Gunning District Landcare Area (see map below) and have a farm dam with good fringing and aquatic vegetation, or a dam that you are willing to fence from stock and revegetate with shrubs and aquatic plants, then please get in touch with Lori Gould on 0439 030 058 or via email lori@grassrootsenviro.com.
There are incentives of up to $4,000 per dam available to cover fencing, plants and alternative water for suitable sites.
