EOI - Riverina LLS Community Advisory Groups
Primary tabs
It is a requirement of the Local Land Services Act that each LLS board establishes one or more local community advisory groups. Members must be suitably qualified to serve on the group and representative of the interests of the local community and stakeholders in the region. The board of the LLS sets the terms of reference for the local community advisory groups.
Your voice is important.
Community Landcare has been watching with interest to see how the new Riverina LLS puts in place structures to promote effective and quality community engagement. We are seeking engagement that is mutually respectful of each others roles and which seeks to support the important work of community Landcare in the region. Engagement with community in the past often involved a 'ticking the box' approach. The new LLS offers opportunities to do things differently.
The communtiy advisory groups have been seen by Landcare as one mechanism for community input into NRM policy and planning. There would be many different ways advisory groups could have been configured. The board of the Riverina LLS has decided to establish groups on landscape/land use types. These groups are:
- Irrigation Advisory Group
- Rangelands Advisory group
- Mixed Farming Advisory Group
- Highlands Advisory Group
The board of the Riverina LLS has made clear that it sees it primary focus as production. One of the concerns voiced by numerous Landcare members is where NRM and sustainable agriculture fits into this picture?
MLi encourages community Landcare members and participants to submit Expressions of Interest to join the Riverina Community Advisory Groups.
Your voice is important.
Each of these groups will be a valuable conduit between the community and the LLS Board on the services offered by Riverina Local Land Services, and any issues or trends that are important to their landscape, or the producers that rely on it.
Nominations close Friday 6th June, 2014.
