K2C mini-forum: ACT government approach to weed management - Queanbeyan
Primary tabs
Date:
8 Dec 2017 - 10:45am
Steve Taylor has worked since 2000 for ACT Parks and Conservation Service as a parks ranger, weeds officer, fire crew member and later as a crew leader. However, he began his career in weed control and ecological restoration doing bush regeneration in Sydney in the mid 1980s. Steve completed an Applied Science degree as a mature aged student in 1992, and gained valuable experience in vegetation and wildlife survey jobs and work at the National Botanic Gardens.
Since taking over as the ACT Senior Weeds Officer, Steve has adopted a number of innovative approaches to weed control. He will speak on the ACT weeds legislation, major ACT weed containment and eradication strategies and approaches, keeping up with changes in thinking and technology, and training and use of professional staff, contractors and volunteers. He will also talk about the use of Facebook and other online media to identify new and potentially dangerous weeds, and approaches to extreme weed control and use of drones.
This will be a great learning opportunity and Steve will be happy to share his experience and answer difficult questions.
This is a free event and morning tea is included, but you need to register. Please contact Geoff Robertson: 0403 221 117 or 6241 4065.
The forum will be held at the NSW Government Offices, 11 Farrer Place, Queanbeyan.
