Biomass for Bioenergy Forum - Griffith
Primary tabs
Date:
28 Aug 2018 - 9:30am
In this forum we will be presenting:
- the latest information from the NSW component of the ABBA project
- existing and prospective bioenergy projects in the region
- opportunities arising from a new DPI bioenergy project
The Australian Biomass for Bioenergy Assessment (ABBA) project is catalysing investment in the renewable energy sector through provision of detailed information about biomass resources across Australia. The project is collecting data on the location, volumes and availability of biomass for inclusion on the Australian Renewable Energy Mapping Infrastructure (AREMI) platform.
This geospatial biomass data complements existing related information such as energy infrastructure, power utilities, population data, land use data and solar and wind data, which are also available on the AREMI platform.
This information is been used by potential bioenergy project investors, biomass purchasers, current and future energy users, electricity providers and policy makers to guide the early decision making process on biomass resources and availability.
Work by NSW DPI for the ABBA project has shown that biomass resources such as cropping stubble, intensive animal waste, grape marc and organic waste in landfill are significant in the Riverina region, along with cotton trash, rice hulls and nut shells.
In addition to the ABBA project we will have representatives from local industries talking about their experience and interest in the use of biomass.
We will also be discussing opportunities associated with a new DPI project on bioenergy including energy crop trials and the potential for electricity generation from hybrid solar:biomass power stations.
There will be plenty of time allowed for discussion throughout the day.
Morning tea and lunch is provided (please advise of dietary requirements).
Arrival and morning tea: 9.30-10am.
Please RSVP by Monday 13th August 2018 to Catherine Carney (ABBA Project & GIS Officer) - cath.carney@dpi.nsw.gov.au
