Australian Bird Environment Foundation Grants
Primary tabs
The Australian Bird Environment Foundation (ABEF) is a Trust Fund run through Birds Australia to support practical, on ground, conservation activities as part of the group's endeavours to counter the constant threat to Australian bird life from vegetation clearance, habitat degradation and competition from invading species. Through the ABEF, Birds Australia offers grants of up to $3,500 to assist projects pertaining to Australian native birds and their habitats to:
- Undertake research and investigation,
- Carry out voluntary conservation work,
- Develop and execute education and information programs, or
- Develop management plans or techniques.
Application forms, together with supporting information, must be submitted to Birds Australia by Thursday 31st May 2012. The guidelines and application form are available for download, below.
Since 1983, the ABEF has provided over $200,000 in 160 grants spread over every State and Territory. ABEF Grants have supported projects of three types: practical conservation such as native plantings for revegetation and fencing of remnant vegetation; research and survey of the needs of Australian birds and their habitats; and public education such as provision of information brochures, signage and posters.
